However, once every four years, the month will get another date, adding one extra day in the calendar known as a “leap day”. This leap year, we encourage you to take that extra day to become a safer, more resilient you. In honor of the extra 24 hours, here are some manageable things you can do to Leap into Safety!
-Know which types of disasters could affect your area.
-Visit www.Floodsmart.gov to know your area’s level of flood risk.
-Check if you have the right type of flood insurance.
-Safeguard your documents. (Find a flood-safe place like a high shelf or upper floor in resealable water-tight plastic bags.)
-Document your property.
-Start a “rainy day” fund.
-Check smoke alarms.
-Update supplies in your emergency kit.
-Update supplies in your emergency car kit.

San Joaquin County officials and first responders remain vigilant as a storm system moves across the County.
Deputy Director of Emergency Operations Tiffany Cacho from San Joaquin County Office of Emergency Services · 1 Feb
Although minor issues such as ponding of water on roadways, power outages, and downed trees were reported overnight, most have been resolved by this morning. At this time, no evacuations have been required.
With another storm system on the horizon, officials urge residents to exercise caution and to please avoid driving on flooded roads. Our community’s safety is and will always remain our top priority. You can help stay prepared for the weekend by staying up-to-date on official County social media, SJReady.org, or by calling 211

Please avoid driving through flooded roads. Stay updated at SJReady.org.
In response to the NWS advisory, county officials are actively monitoring the upcoming weather system. Anticipate water ponding, rising rivers, and minor flooding in vulnerable areas. Never attempt to drive through flooded roads.
Moderate to heavy rain will bring flooding concerns Wednesday through Friday. Gusty southerly winds are expected Wednesday into Thursday. Difficult driving conditions, downed branches/weakened trees, and power outages will be possible. Plan ahead and be sure to secure any loose outdoor objects!
