‘Baby Reindeer’: Lawyer Tells Piers Morgan Real ‘Martha’ Stalked Her, Too (2024)

The Baby Reindeer saga continues with a lawyer telling Piers Morgan that she, too, was stalked by the real “Martha.” Keep scrolling to see the full interview below.

Martha, of course, is the name standup comedian and actor Richard Gadd used for the woman who stalked him in the Netflix limited series, which became a global phenomenon after it was released on the streamer April 11.

In the series—which proclaims, “This is a true story” in the opening episode—Gadd plays himself but calls his character Donny Dunn. Donny is a struggling standup comedian who is kind to Martha Scott (Jessica Gunning)—a Scottish attorney—while working as a bartender at a pub.

The encounter then snowballs into a harrowing ordeal where Martha stalks Donny and—among other things—sends him more than 41,000 emails over four years and leaves him more than 350 hours of voicemails.

Gadd has said in interviews that while Baby Reindeer is a fictionalized account of his stalking ordeal—as well as revelations of sexual abuse by a television writer—“emotionally, it’s all 100% true.”

After internet sleuths figured out who the real “Martha” was, the once-anonymous woman started doing interviews with the British press and publicly revealed her identity as Fiona Harvey on Morgan’s YouTube show Piers Morgan Uncensored on May 9. The nearly hour-long interview has been seen by 13 million views to date.

In the aftermath, Morgan said he was seeking Gadd for an interview to explain his side of the story. In the interim, though, the journalist landed a sit-down with Laura Wray, the widow of the late British Member of Parliament Jimmy Wray.

Laura Wray, who employed Harvey for a short time years before the Gadd encounter, contacted Morgan about an interview after seeing Harvey’s sit-down with Morgan.

Wray told Morgan on Wednesday’s Piers Morgan Uncensored that she first learned of Baby Reindeer about five weeks ago after the Scottish publication The Sunday Mail contacted her and asked if she had seen the series. Wray hadn’t and took their advice to watch it—and said she immediately knew that “Martha” was Harvey.

“From the very beginning, it was obvious it was the same woman. It was Fiona Harvey,” Wray told Morgan. “The actress [Gunning], who does a very good job, sounds like her, looks like her [and] mimicked her to a T.”

Since the controversy erupted, Gunning said she had no idea who the real “Martha” was while making Baby Reindeer.

In addition to Wray’s description of Gunning’s performance, Morgan pointed out to her that the phrases “Martha” uses in the series are the same that Harvey uses on her Twitter [now X] account.

“Yes,” Wray confirmed. “I have a file full of papers which are letters from her, emails, faxes and so forth and it’s all identical.”

During Baby Reindeer, Donny looks up Martha’s past online, where he finds similar reports of similar stalking incidents. Wray said she was one of the first real people identified after Baby Reindeer was released because of the way the unique circ*mstances were portrayed in the series.

“I think it was so unusual that she was a female stalker stalking another female,” Wray told Morgan. “So I was actually identified by the press before she was. I think the press held back a bit with her for about a week and then I think it was The Sun who came out and said who she was.

Harvey Denied All Of Wray’s Claims In Her Interview With Morgan

In her Wednesday interview on Piers Morgan Uncensored, Laura Wray made claims about Fiona Harvey’s behavior while working at her firm.

“She was rude to staff. She shouted at people. She was inappropriate with a male member of staff,” Wray told Morgan. “She tried to follow a male member of staff home. I mean all sorts of things happen. She threw a book across the office and hit somebody with it.”

During his May 9 interview with Harvey, Morgan asked the attorney about her work with Wray. Harvey discussed her short work tenure with the attorney, which happened years before her alleged encounter with Gadd.

“She head-hunted me from another firm because she needed someone to do employment law and I’m pretty good at employment law,” Harvey told Morgan.

Harvey also countered Wray’s claim that she was fired because she was rude to Wray’s staff. Harvey, though, claimed the opposite thing happened.

“I walked because her staff [members] were really, really rude to me,” Harvey told Morgan, who then brought up Wray’s harassment allegations against Harvey.

Quoting Wray’s claims from the U.K. publication The Sun, Morgan described how Wray feared for the safety of her staff and got them personal alarms.

Morgan also read of Wray’s claims that Harvey was served an interim interdict—known as a court-ordered restraining order in the U.S.—to keep the woman away from her and her husband.

“That’s nonsense. [I] checked this out. There is no interim interdict in Scotland,” Harvey told Morgan.

During the interview, Harvey denied Gadd’s claims and threatened to sue him and Netflix. After talking with Morgan, Harvey did an interview with the Daily Record and said she was only offered $315 for the interview.

Instead, Harvey added in the interview she “would settle” for 1 million British pounds from Morgan, which equates to $1.25 million dollars in the U.S.

Baby Reindeer, meanwhile, keeps drawing millions of viewers on Netflix. According to streamer, Baby Reindeer finished at No. 10 on the Netflix Top 10 Global TV Shows chart in its eighth week of release.

For the week of May 27-June 2, Baby Reindeer amassed 2.8 million views, which equates to 11.3 million viewing hours, Netflix reported.
